View of a typical freshman dorm at BC. Overall the dorms are more spacious than other colleges I have seen, the cleaning crew is super nice and come everyday to clean hallways and hall bathrooms [not suites], and they are set up so you tend to reside in dorms near people in your year. In hall styles all doors are weighted so they close automatically unless left propped. All freshmen must live on campus. This includes all the special interest housing like the healthy living floor, the Shaw Leadership Program [Shaw House], all girls dorm [Koska] and honors housing [Medeiros Hall]. This part of campus is mainly doubles with a few quads and triples thrown in, and there is a possibility of forced triples i.

Yes, we were all once at that stage in our lives, and yes, we were all that dumb. Freshman are the defenseless antelope running in herds away from the cheetahs we call upperclassmen. That wide-eyed look of stupidity and fear is endearing, but annoying to anyone who has already experienced a year or more of the college lifestyle. Luckily for any newcomers, I have a complete survival manual for making it through your first year of college with your dignity in tact, and embarrassment at a minimum.

Times have changed, and that is a good thing—especially the fading-away of cruel taboos that once stigmatized women who engaged in premarital sex or bore children out of wedlock. Thing is, times change for a reason. The values question assumes that sexual mores loosen naturally from conservative to liberal. In reality, these values have ebbed and flowed throughout history, often in conjunction with prevailing sex ratios. But the problem is a demographic one. Multiple studies show that college-educated Americans are increasingly reluctant to marry those lacking a college degree.
At Colleges, Women Are Leaving Men in the Dust
But battling everything from homesickness to anxiety and depression can make it anything but. Here’s how to deal going into spring semester. Within minutes, I heard from Danielle not her real name , an year-old freshman at a university in Massachusetts. In fact, she had “an amazing, tight-knit crew of about 10 girls. I loved meeting up with them before classes and rushing to get lunch together,” she reminisced.

One in 5 female students has been assaulted, and just 12 percent of such attacks are reported to law enforcement, according to a White House Task Force report. It is alarming that one in five women are sexual assaulted during their time at college, and that women are more likely to be sexually assaulted if they go to college than if they do not. Although it is not as common, men also endure sexual assault while studying at universities. I think that society as a whole needs to work towards making college campuses safer and sexual assault less prevalent.
I would like to address the term sexual assault. Sexual assault occurs when a person is forced, coerced, or threatened to participate in an involuntary sexual behavior.
Between classes, exams, work or internships, being in a serious relationship can seem like another obligation. Some students may just want a casual relationship simply based on mutual physical attraction. And while being in a shallow relationship may not be for everyone, this type of relationship has its benefits—and dangers— if both partners are looking for a fun time, with no-strings-attached.
The Perks Leandro Severo, a junior at Loyola Marymount University, said he is very happy with his shallow relationship. The people involved are not getting to know each other beyond a superficial level, and building a deeper connection may not have much importance if neither person is planning on being there for the long haul. According to Coleman, shallow relationships are more common among people during their college years because students are concentrating on getting an education and generally want to stay uncommitted for a variety of reasons.
This type of relationship can be hollow and lifeless, and will never flourish unless partners can find qualities that make the other person more attractive beyond the initial physical attraction. Though looks can be important, Coleman said it is also essential to build an emotional connection with someone you care about since it is the foundation for any kind of relationship.
Nahal Rosen, a senior at the University of California, Santa Cruz, said that she has always had a crush on one of her best guy friends, who also happens to be her hook-up buddy at times. But while they do connect on a deeper, less superficial level, Rosen is reluctant to take the next step. And, since there is no attachment, the chances of getting hurt are significantly less—or so it would seem.

Aug 19, The first week of college you meet someone who you happen to really hit it off with. In my experience, no. From interviews with seniors at my college. One was an English professor and the other was a journalism professor, and I was doing really well in both their classes. I will never forget the look of wild confusion on each of their faces when I shared with them the one detail that could prevent me from studying abroad.
Both professors praised my work so highly and told me I was capable of so much more than the grades I was receiving. I walked out crying because, for the first time in my life, I believed them. It is a beautiful time of discovery and one that you wont get to repeat. So if I may, can I ask one thing of you? Your grades are important, and parties are fun, but make sure you take some time for yourself once in a while, away from it all.
For me, it has made all the difference. Be selective about those who get to spend time with you. You are main bitch material, dammit! Stop waiting around for all those losers to see how fucking awesome you are, and make time for the ones that knew it the moment they met you. I know alcohol and the bar scene is new and exciting, but be safe and try not to be too stupid.

This sounds like the sort of advice that we all need less of. College is a time in our lives when we continue to learn and to discover new aspects of our selves including how to build and nurture relationships with other people. Many people start College with a Partner. Some people start College and try to maintain a long-distance relationship which is a learning experience unto itself.
During your College years opportunities will present themselves to you. Choose carefully and wisely which opportunities you select. But do not deny yourself a Partner because some told you that it will distract you from learning; having and maintaining Partners is among the experiences which comprise the whole of the College experience for many people. The first few weeks of College are a tornado of activity and adjustment; but after the first few weeks you should be able to add some items to your personal life including dating and spending time with your peers.
I am not telling you that you should find a Partner your first year.
